Episode 1 | NFL + offense + defense

This is the first video in the StatsHomies repository, and a doozy at that. Offense and defense are hotly debated with respect to impact on games, how much teams should invest, and which wins championships. While the last question cannot be addressed because the data is all from the regular season, the results were pretty clear.

A linear regression analysis using point differential as the outcome revealed that not only are offensive yards worth more 'points' (pretty obvious), but defense doesn't even really move the needle. This has long been touted by sports commentators and talking heads but the data appears to back it up.
